Henergy
When I went to let the girls free range this am, I noticed that one of mine seems to have really parted feathers under her chin & neck. It looks wet too. I first thought that she'd stuck her head too far into the glug & got a soaking but I've dried her & it still looks a bit odd. I don't think its blood and have tried to look (as much as she'll let me) for signs of anything untoward. I can't tell whether there's any feathers missing. Any guesses as what it might be ? My first thought (being a very green & panicky chicken mummy) was to rush her to the vet but I've calmed down now . They do have a tendancy when free ranging to stick theit head a long way through the omlet netting to get to the goodies on the other side. Could it be that thats parting the feathers ? Tweety
As long as there is no blood, I wouldn't panic. How long have you had your girls? Have you noticed any feather pulling/plucking going on? Is she behaving normally otherwise ie eating, drinking, pooing ok?
Henergy
Well it all looks ok now - I think she probably did get it looking scraggy by rubbing on the netting. I am such a worrier !
