kinsk
My two new hens seem to have an issue with the straw in the nesting box the other three never bothered with it but within about half an hour of putting clean straw in they have gone in and scratched most of it out, then they start bringing the odd bit out and just dumping it in the run. They still lay in the nesting box whether there is straw there or not. Anyone else have this?
bouldercroft
my crazy chooks did this too - I switched them to wood shavings and they have given up on the interior re-design fascination
poppy ben grace
Little monkeys! I would try them on woodshavings ,some people advise against straw as the redmite like to hide in it. I bet its hilarious watching them s"Ooops, word censored!"ing the straw out! p.s love your avatar!
Snoxy
My girls never scratched out straw until my ex batt girls taught them how to
kinsk
p.s love your avatar! thanks. Glad mine aren't the only hooligans then. Seriously my three ex bats were lovely well mannered ladies, these two are just bolshy, demanding, stroppy mares! I need an extra pair of hands to try and change their water and top up the feed in the run as they have devised a kind of pincer movement where they come at me from both sides to make a bid for the garden (they get let out in the afternoons when I am back from work but they think it should be an all day jaunt) Yesterday when I was cleaning out the pod I turned my back for a split second and one had launched itself out of the hatch. I use straw as that's what the horses and pigs are on so we have pleanty around but it might be worth getting some shavings.
