fluffy chick
Some people would separate her, put her in a broody cage/crate until she gets it out of her system. Some people shut them out the nesting box. (I never tried the former but did the latter which resulted in stroppy LOUD chucks layed outside the nesting box ) I ended up just kicking them out so they would eat and drink. They would be back in the box within 2 minutes! I'm not necessarily saying you should do what I did (cos they were broody for ages!) but at least no one got hurt! But if you want then that's a different story!
sjp
broody good it's just I want to know if her being stroopy and unhandleable makes her a bad choice I'd really like Hope my speckled sussex to be broody but I don't think thats going to happen

sjp
the little madam decided Saturday that she wasn't ready to go broody after all so all weekend and Monday she went about her normal routine so I set the 'bator up Sunday and set the eggs early Monday morning.get home from work yesturday(tuesday)to find her sitting on the days eggs plus the 2 pot eggs this morning she was still sitting on the pot eggs (I removed the eggs Tuesday) with a few added feathers tonight found her sitting on the days eggs with a good circle of feathers so assuming I can keep a hold of her she's going in the broody coop with 3 or 4 eggs

sjp
well she's been sitting tight for a week shes down to 4 eggs which comfirmed my fears that she'd eaten one egg last week. candled the 7 in the bator last night ( day 9) now down to 6 one was clear, gave 2 the benifit of the doubt but I think they are duds, they aren't clear but don't look right

sjp
Gutted. Better luck next time. Could you try sourcing some days olds to pop under her? she's still got 4 eggs due on the Wednesday of bank holiday week and I've got 6 in the 'bator due bank holiday Monday number 6 is a suspected dud I think she broke the one the first night I put her in the broody coop when I moved her she was sitting on the days 3 eggs plus the 2 pot eggs so I added 2 eggs to the 3 when I moved her but yes if all eggs fail on she sits tight till the Saturday I'll get her 2 or

sjp
one of the CLB eggs pipped sometime between 4pm - 5pm. still getting cheeping but not a lot of wobbleing Good luck, it's nail-biting time now! got no nails to bite it's not so much the 'bators ones that worry me it's the ones under the broody they are direct onto the coop floor I've put the bedding back the couple of times I've found her off them but she just s"Ooops, word censored!"es the bedding back again but at least I now know who does it in the nest box. I also think she's getting board or it could just be the heat but 2 days running shes dug a big hole in the run and burried the feeder and the threshold of the doorway

sjp
incubator eggs day 22 looks like the last 3 eggs aren't going to hatch had no movement or cheeping from them! all told a pritty poor hatch all round 1 clear at day 10, 1 remove at day 18 died very early on, 1 that I wasn't sure about at day 18 so left, the other 2 looked OK at day 18.that lust leaves the 4 under the broody due to hatch 27/04/11 but 3 of those are the same breeds as 2 of the ones in the 'bator worst thing is they were my own eggs not posted ones

sjp
That's a shame ... Where did you get the other eggs from, and what breeds were they? all this batch and the one I did in Early January were from my girls the 3 still siting in the'bator are a gold legbar,a barnbar and a colunbian black tail hyrid all crossed to my naked neck Boris the 2 that hatched are cream legbar crosses all crossed to my naked neck Boris hes was hatched last June from eggs I got from Domestic Fowl Trust has is the broody Rebecca a welsumer copper black maran cross I've had one hatch either over night or early this morning under the broody a yellow bandit so it might be a gold legbar cross
