Daisy question re how high hens can jump

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help please. Daisy the most confident and naughtiest of my ladies has decided its great fun to jump onto of her Eglu cube run now that my DH has built a lovely outdoor run for her and her 5 flatmates next 2 it using the omlet netting system. i didn't realise (probably stupidly) how adept she would be at jumping. How high can they jump and is the omlet netting sufficiently high enough to stop her getting over? We can probably stop her jumping onto the cube run by moving it or adapting the outside run. We have a 6 foot fence all around the garden, would she be able to clear that? Also I don't want the others folowing her example!! :?:?

Mine can clear the omlet netting if they really want to. Thankfully it's only happened a couple of times... I presume you've clipped one of their wings? Just keep any objects out of their way so they can't use them to get any higher... other than that it will depend upon the breed of bird you have as to how high they can go!

Be careful not to leave anything (bbq, garden table, rabbit hutch) next your fence... Last year our Black Rock comitted hen suicide by jumping onto our bbq, then on top of our 6ft fence, then into the jaws of nextdoors dog :(

We had clipped one of her wings but she didnt seem to have much trouble hopping up.
