Henergy
I have a green light from DH for a WIR and another hen (I'm thinking 2). But I really don't want to start buying new coops etc - how can I integrate her (them ) into my current flock of 2 without spending out. Is it just daytime that they need to be separate or night as well ? (By the way, I blame you lot entirely for this - I never thought I'd want more than 2 !!) Tweety
Morehens is becoming a very fast-acting disease, it would seem! Will you wait for the WIR before getting more hens? If so, you should be able to divide the run without too much expense, using some netting/chicken wire/similar. They should be fine together at night, it's just during the day that they should be separated at first.
Olly
Can you use your existing run to keep them apart during the day, maybe using it inside the WIR? They should be ok at night, and in fact putting them together at night will help them get used to each other. Bear in mind that you might want to 'quarantine' any new hens for a week or two to begin with, just in case they are carrying any bugs.
