Miss Moneypenny
Hello All, One of my hens has been laying soft shells for a couple of weeks now but it getting worse... I have watched egg white just pour out of her bottom! She is quite off colour when she needs to pass one then fine afterward. She is passing the egg yolk too which looks lovely. When there is some kind of egg membrane it is not fully formed and has long bits attached to it... I am giving her nutri-drops, poultry drink in the water, organic layers pellets, grit and oyster shell, ground up eggshells and i am getting to my wits end! Other hens all laying normally. I have laid off the treats to see if that helps but she has lost weight... Has anyone come across such a thing??? Thanks
percy049
Might be a calcium deficiency . You could try adding liquid calcium to their water, or in an injection from the vet.
Egluntyne
Sounds as if there is something seriously amiss in her egg laying tackle. I'd take her to the vet.
