I have a broody serama

Recommended Posts

Good luck! My girl is on 10 eggs in the eglu. She ate one, I've disposed of one tonight which was a definite dud. There is another possible dud, but I'll candle in the dark tomorrow to be sure before I ditch it. The other nine had definite areas of yolk / albumen and air space.

Will yours be faster than the 21 days?

I've no experience with Seramas but I imagine that as they're the smallest of the small, they probably will hatch closer to 19 days than 21. So that's slightly less time you'll need to sit on your hands

Just a thought, but what about putting all five developing eggs under Vera and switching off the incubator for now? :)

I haven't had a chicken yet that can count, though some are slighter better gifted in the brain department than others!

I would certainly go that route, it will be much easier for you in the long run if Vera is mum rather than you. I'd either put the incy eggs under her at night, or sneak them in next time she gets off for a comfort break. Don't switch the incubator off until you're sure she's accepted them though - just in case!

Good luck :)
