Hello everybody Not been on here for a while. Just thought of you wise Omleteers and wondered if you could give me any words of Omlet wisdom on the subject of Pottery.

I had a conversation with a friend today and Im not sure how we got on the subject but he said he had a Kiln he was getting rid of and I could have it if it was any use

I did go on a Pottery course a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I had a look at some equipment at the time but its rather expensive so gave up the idea as a bad job and now to be honest Im not really sure where to start.

Does anyone on here 'Pot' or 'Potter' whatever the right word is???

wow, what a fantastic gift

 

i used to do pottery at evening class, it was great to get rid of frustration

 

when you are working the clay you need to make sure you dont have any air holes, or it can explode

 

and if it goes in the kiln, it must be totally dry or it might explode

 

if you have a hobbycraft near you they sell clay and slip (the stuff you paint pictures on the clay with) and glaze (the stuff you cover the pot in to make it all shiny like )

 

dont put glaze on the bottom of the pot, or it might stick.

 

why dont you go to an evening class for a half term and re-pick up your skills

Actually it's something i've always fancied doing, I did look for local courses a while ago but couldn't find any that didn't cost a fortune.

Thankyou for the replies. Im struggling to find a course locally to me to brush up on my pottery. It would be a good idea to try and do another course. Ill have to keep a look out and see if perhaps one might come up in September.

 

Going to try and source some library books and I have a few people to ask for advice. If Im succesfull in making anything Ill let you all know

Hi I am a potter also. I teach pottery and a bit of art however pottery is my subject. I have my own studio. Just be warned like keeping hens pottery is also adictive. Good luck with your new hobby. And yes Jill potter on here also pots.
