vidic
Hi there, i recently got two gorgeous hens. Very recently! I'm a total novice but loving reading up and learning about them and spending time with them. The man we bought ours from only breeds this type which he said were 'royal reds', no amount of googling has shown me a type with this name and they're not in the hen book i have. Anyone any clue what they are? They're fairly large and quite inquisitive and friendly. I thought maybe Rhode Islands but they don't look dark enough. Maybe Isa Warners, or brown warners? Confuseeeed! They're also getting along wonderfully with my two greyhounds so goes to show with the right training and intro's, dogs and hens can work (the dogs are indoor dogs so the hens get to free range but i put them in the run when the dogs are around, the dogs are great but i'd rather be cautious!!!) **Message from Moderators** As a new member it is not possible to post direct links or photos. 5am however has posted your pictures below in their post Edited May 10, 2011 by Guest

Sam
Its because you're a new member so can't post photos yet. Lovely girls, I can't really help but I think they are Rhode Island Red cross Light Sussex. Well, the one in the bottom photo looks just like my RIR cross

Sam
I think the breeders call them anything they want really! Ours were called 'Goldlines' and on their website it explains that they are Rhode Island Red cross Light Sussex. I suppose its so the hens are different and unique, when really they are the same as all of the others But lovely nonetheless
zakjon-98
From the photos they are warren/ISA brown/gingernut hybrids which are rhode island red based hybrids. They are cool chooks
Plum
Hello welcome to the forum. They are the same as Omlet's Gingernut Ranger a lovely friendly (to humans) hen.
vidic
thanks guys! they are really sweet, not at all timid. They had their first free range tonight (we were told to keep them in for about 5 days but they're so confident and inquisitive that i didn't think letting them out early would phase them - it didnt!) and they loved it and kept coming up to us and were happily patted. I love them
