Best liner/ bedding for drop tray

My 7 Frizzle chicks are now five and a half weeks old, and one of them is very obviously a cockerel - he has a good sized pink comb and wattles. The other 6 look completely different to him - small yellowish combs and no sign of wattles yet.

I know that it is extremely unlikely that I will only have one boy out of the 7 chicks, so I wondered if in general chicks develop at the same rate and show the characteristics of their sex more or less at the same time? If any of the others are boys, should they look more like him and would it be obvious by now, or is it just that he has developed faster?

It would help enormously if I could post some photos, I know, but our computer has given up the ghost.

You'd normally expect them to develop at the same rate if they are the same breed and should be able to sex them around the same time - I've had a few that have bucked that trend though but not many

I have 3 x 3 & 1/2 week old not at all frizzled pekins. 2 are obviously boys as their combs are developing nicely The other is a girl; I'm not sure about the 4th who is silver laced wyandotte. No sign of a comb yet, but 'it' has been narky & feisty since it was a few days old I sometimes think it looks like an ostrich cos it makes it's neck as long as well, an ostrich's!; what do others think?
