Morehens disease but can't find breeds

Recommended Posts

Hello. Our 2 will be ready to move into their new home in a week or two and so I will have empty temporary accommodation  Be silly not to use it whilst it is all set up  I would like a bantam maran for dark eggs or araucana for blue but am not having much luck from my 'wanted' ads. Does anyone know of anyone in or around Bedfordshire who has these? Failing that, I have seen an advert in practical poultry for catrin's garden poultry and they have quite a list of bantams. Being new to all of this I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has visited or bought birds from them. Thanks.

I haven't been to 'catrin's garden poultry' but I would definitely recommend going somewhere where you can see various different banties together as picutures on websites and in books can't quite replace the real thing. You never know, you might fall in lurve with quite a different breed of chook. When I started out I made a real mistake of researching breeds in books and then driving hours away in response to ads, only to do a 'hmm, not quite what I was thinking of'. This did not win me browny points with OH

The breed clubs for the breeds in question will be able to give you details of any local breeders - all the breed clubs are listed on the Poultry Club website

Neither breed is particularly common in the bantam form so you may have to travel

:wall: I have contacted breed clubs for the others not sure why it didn't occur to me this time! Thanks Tasha. I will do that. Cheaky Chook you are right about how things change when you go looking at chickens in the flesh. I started out looking for pekins but changed my mind after seeing them at the breeders! I have seen araucanas and marans and would really like a bantam sized one. Guess I may need to wait. Now what can I get in the meantime?
