CatsCube
I couldn't wait and decided to candle the 21 eggs in the incubator. And there are 2 definate duds (unfertile) but other than that I can see stuff in all of them! I could clearly see a dark area on all of them, didn't spot any red rings, some of them are harder to see as the eggs are porus so look speckled. I could see the veins in a lot of them and some a little black 'chick' bit in, one of which I saw bobbing around! I just wanted to query something, being pekin eggs the shells are very light and thin so you can see pretty clearly, I can see an air pocket at the tip of most and a dark area that makes up about 2/3s then the remaining third is a lighter colour, but this dark bit doesn't move if that makes sense, its all in a fixed position, I thought like a yoke it would be bobbing around for some reason. or ones its developing does it 'attach' itself to one side of the shell to put down its veins, a bit like a human baby attaching to the wall of the uterus? Its just at the moment its adding to my fear of eggs not turning enough.
brambles
Sounds like what my bantam eggs looked like!
CatsCube
Cant believe I only have 2 duds out of the lot, (still another 7 eggs I haven't checked yet under my broody) what sort of hatch rate is average from fertile eggs? I got 28 eggs with the hope of having around 20 viable's then take half out as being boys, leaving me with around 10 hens.
Mollie333
What day are they on? You'll be able to see spider-web like veins at day 6/8.
CatsCube
Yesterday was day 5 (if classing setting day as 0) And yes on a number of them I could see the veins, I will do it again in a couple of days and get the boys to watch as it should be easier for them to see. Mollie333
I'd keep them all under, then candle on day 8. What eggs are they, again?
