Please Help My Poor Chick!!!

Recommended Posts

Dear All

I have two 7 week old Pekin chicks, I let them out in the run Saturday as it was a nice day.

Sunday they both slept alot and I put it down to being tired, One is getting worse and has puffed himself up and his head is under his wing im worried he may of picked something up as i do have other chickens?

Im ever so worried as the other chick is his normal self.

Im at work beside myself

:(

:( Really feel for you worrying! I would be the same - having 10 2 week old chicks myself at the mo I am watching them like a hawk. I did read somewhere recently that you should avoid putting chicks/youngsters out on ground used by other chickens in the same season - I guess this is to avoid them picking up any diseases. Bit I'm sure this is not always possible.

Have all your other girls been ok? Did you feed your chicks the crumb with Cocci(doodah) stuff in it for the first 5/6 weeks? What are they on now - growers? What are the poops like - runny/normal?

Have you still got a brooder for them now or are they in the warm again - maybe one got a chill?

Sorry so many questions....! Just trying to get a bigger picture. If you are very worried maybe take him/her to the vets along with a droppings sample, they might be able to do a test on it for you.

Please let me know how you get on, thinking of you and hope all is ok

Hi, where is the chick now, inside or out? Is it still under heat at night? It might be that the chick got a chill when it was outside, in which case you could put it under the heat to see if that helps.

Is the chick eating, drinking and pooing ok?

Not sure what the early signs of Cocci are - apart from runny poos. But it will say on the froem somewhere for sure.

I'd give him a bit of extra heat - even a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel with hot ish but not boiling water in it. He'll snuggle up to it IF he feels cold but won't bother if he's not.

Keep us posted x

Evening Everyone

Thankyou very much for your advice, I came home to find my chick chirping at me through the bars, eating /drinking and doing what chicks do :D

There was a huge poo at least double the size in his cage so maybe he had a stomach ache?

hes been sitting with me on the sofa and is his old self, i wish i could put a pic up for you.
