Getting our chickens tonight.

Recommended Posts

I'm really excited we are going to go and pick our 3 pol chickens when I/ve collected the kids from school tonight. My question is we have an eglu classic, should I put them in the house and leave them there till the morning with the door closed so they know where there bed is ? or do I just put them in the run and leave the door open, and hope they will go in at bedtime. we will probably arrive home just after 5 o clock so is it to early for bed for them ?

Hi!

I was wondering the same thing last Saturday when we got our new girls. We put them in the run with the Eglu door open. We put occasional treats on the edge of the Eglu & just inside throughout the day so they eventually came and checked it out. It was quite late when they went to bed, since the days are so long at the moment. They finally went in and settled down at about 9pm, and we just walked over and shut the door. We did hang a torch inside so they could see - not sure if this made any difference or if they would have found there way anyway!

Best of luck with the new girls.

when we got our hens we got home at that sort of time, our breeder told us to put them straight to bed, I was worried they wouldnt have any water etc but she said they'd be fine and they were.

have fun choosing , it's a Very exciting day

We are only getting three, I would be quite happy with 3 goldlines but my children would like white black and brown, so maybe an amber star mainly white or a light sussex hybrid, a black rock hybrid and a goldline. Which hen usually has the best temperment amber stars or light sussex? also the quietest? I know goldlines are really friendly . Put the bedding in the eglu this morning so all ready to go. Hope it's not pouring with rain as it is now !!!!
