Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

Having a bit of a problem with my chicken Meg and wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar. We have had the chickens for 3 weeks now and after a few soft eggs early on Meg settled down. However on Saturday she laid a huge egg! She seemed Ok and continued to lay as normal. Yesterday morning she was poorly and off her food. I checked the nesting box and there were 2 eggs on the perch not in the egg bowl. One was normal but broken and the other soft.

Fortunately after an hour Meg picked up and was soon back to normal but this morning laid another huge egg. They have a good diet and oyster shell available. I even ground some up last night into a sweet corn mash to make sure Meg was eating it.

I would appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Chickens do seem to look a bit poorly just before they lay a soft egg, but they soon perk up. A couple of my girls are laying eggs without any shell at all! Mine lay different sizes sometimes - huge to tiny!

If she's only recently come into lay, then her egg laying routine will be a bit erratic at fist and you can expect some oddities; she'll settled down soon enough.
