jennym
Hi all, Got my 3 girls last Saturday and the seems to be keeping to herself, while the other 2 ( & ) have clearly bonded, they dustbathe together and generally stick together. I haven't noticed any nastiness, although they do have different personalities - is placid & calmer around people, is quite aggressive for food but doesn't really trust us - she grabs the treats then skitters off The seems somewhere in between - not really bothered by us but not really interested either! My question is - is it normal for one hen to be kind of independent, and a bit separate? She certainly seems calm and no one is picking on her (or vice verse) but she doesn't do the 'chickeny' things the other two do. For example I haven't seen her dustbathe at all yet. Any thoughts? poppy ben grace
Hi, in my (limited) experience, i think all hens have very different personalites. I have 14 hens in total, 9 in a wir and 5 banties/silkies in the eglu and the garden. They are all different, some are friendlier than others and a couple do seem to prefer their own company! You have not had yours long, they are probabbly still working out the pecking order and i am sure the" loner"is perfectly happy and will soon be dustbathing and joining in a bit more soon. As long as she is healthy, eating drinking and not being bullied i wouldnt worry too much! The more time you spend with her the more she will trust and get to know you. Hope this helps put your mind at rest, am sure there will be other members along soon who are a bit more knowledgeable!
zakjon-98
I wouldn't worry. One of mine always goes off on her own.
