sjp
one of my crossbreed pullets has laid her first egg at just 18 weeks old they're not even on layers pelletts yet colours complettly thrown me to a nice cream to milky coffee colour. I was expecting standard brown been as they are naked neck crosses so it's either from the dotte cross or one of the sussex crosses if they are sussex cross they could be colunbine hybrid cross

Chooks76
I'm hungry for my first egg. I bought my chickens two weeks ago - the breeder states all chickens are at least 16+ weeks old. Thus I've been feeding mine on layer pellets since week 16 (potentially). Should I have been giving them something else?
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations, sjp . Chooks76, don't worry, some chickens take longer than others to come into lay . Some can wait till they're 40 weeks or more . You'll just have to play the waiting game (the day you can't be bothered to check the nestbox any more will be the day they lay their first egg ). sjp
Chooks76 I hatched these back in January from my own birds but wasn't expecting eggs till they were about 25+ weeks and wasn't going to put them onto layers pelletts for another couple of weeks as I've still got a cockeral that's not quite ready for the pot in with them

Should I have been giving them something else? you can start chickens on layers pellets from 14-18 weeks, so they're fine with layers pellets
