minature Posted May 28, 2011 Share Posted May 28, 2011 Hi All I have 6 chickens, all different sorts each with their own quirky traits (love them). For the last week or 2 my cream legbar "Sunny" has laid eggs which have blood smeared on the outside of them. At first I had thought this might be because one of my other hens is broody and, (as I am sure happens with most people) all the chickens decide to lay their eggs in the box where she is. Thus causing upset and arguements and I thought maybe Sunny was trying to get her egg out quickly which made her strain and hurt herself = blood on the egg???? I have now seperated the broody chicken, and we have had an egg from Sunny today which didnt have as much blood as before. I will wait for another couple of days to see how she gets on but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what treatment it required etc. She is otherwise fit and healthy. minature Posted May 28, 2011 Author Share Posted May 28, 2011 Right I have checked them and there are definatly no red mite, we did notice a small sore patch on her vent so it may be where it stretched when she was laying, I will keep you posted.
