3 chickens, one has runny poo

Recommended Posts

I brought my new chickens home on Tuesday, all their poo was a bit sloppy (sorry) but has improved each day. Now I would say 2 of them have good poo, needs a little firming up but generally OK. The 3rd has very runny lightish brown poo. She seems in good health and spirits apart from this, eating drinking etc. I have been giving them a handful of corn every afternoon, so I've decided to cut this down for now. I've also looked at some of the other posts around this subject and have some bokashi, poultry spice and cider vinegar in my shopping basket! When I got them the breeder said they wouldn't need worming till the end of June so I don't think it's that, but would it be worth doing them again anyway just in case?

Sorry for all the questions! If I order those products do you think that covers general health issues, or is it really necessary? Don't mind spending money on them but also don't want to get things they don't need, they are around 16 weeks old if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance... :?

It's probably just the move so I would hold fire at present. If she is eating, drinking and acting like a normal chicken you can afford to watch and see how she goes. :D

It wouldn't hurt to worm soon but use something like Flubenvet. The herbal ones are preventative and some people find them very effective.

Cider Acid Vinegar is fine to use, it prevents bacteria in water in summer as well said to be good for gut. You can get it from horse food places for a couple of quid. They won't need a supplement yet. :D

I would get some bokashi bran - it stops the poo smell as much and firms it up so easier to clean up! I mix it in the food, and once I mixed it with a small pot of probiotic yoghurt which they loved, and helped with the runs.

enjoy your chooks, I bet you are spending hours watching them!

just been sitting on the grass watching them! spent a while out there this morning without the kids, took a tiny bit of grain in with me (trying to limit it but couldn't resist!) and they were all eating out my hand - which is actually quite painful! They are all starting to relax around me now, will go ahead and order some bokashi I think. :)
