KimmyCustard
One of my 5 (Marge) has been feather pecking at the base of 2 of the other girls tails. They get to free range about 4 days out of 7 (work shifts permitting!) but the rest of the time they are in a WIR (15ft x 7ft) on bare soil. I didnt want to fit a bumper bit to her beak so I have hung some CDs in the run and have bought some straw and put it under the Cube for them to scratch through. I also hang broccoli or cauliflower up so they have to jump slightly to reach it and that keeps them entertained for a while. They have a log, an old garden chair and a perch in there as well. Does anyone have any ideas for some chickeny toys to keep Marge and co busy so she stops the pecking please? I was considering one of those rubber dog toys that you stuff with treats, I could stuff it with greens etc? My friend has a farm with chooks and she suggested throwing the pellets on the ground so they have to search for them as they do in the wild but I wasnt sure if this was a good idea either! Any advice/suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated!
Electricbarbarella
i think throwing the pellets on gthe ground could attract rats, sounds like they have plenty to do, have you tried the anti pek spray for the plucked chook, never used it so not sure how good it is but might be worth a try.
