Unsecure chicken perches

Hi,

 

Just another quick question before I order my coop...

 

The coop that I'm looking says it is suitable for up to 6 hens and has 3 nesting boxes and we were planning on getting 5 chickens, so I was just wondering do chickens need a nesting box each or are they happy to share?

Hi, if mine are anything to go by they will be more than happy to share! I think 3 nest boxes for 5 hens is more than enough. Hope it all goes well for you.

Read somewhere that the minimum is one box per 4 girls - so you will be fine! They'll probably form an orderly (?) queue!

I didn't want to buy a coop and then have a couple of box-less chickens on the first night!!

If one of mine can't be bothered to wait they will squeeze in there with the other and sit there chatting away to each other! Some of our ex batts like to sleep in the nest box occasionally and as many of 3 of them have squeezed in there together so your girls will have plenty of room. Good luck with the new arrivals!
