jennym
Hello! I'm very proud of my lovely ladies, who are great fun and have now started giving me an egg per day since Tuesday. The problem is I don't know who is doing it! I have 3 eggs - day 1 egg looks a bit different from day 2 & 3, which are pretty much identical. I have 3 different hens . Now I know they all lay brown eggs but they are described a little bit differently - Pepperpot eggs are 'tinted', Bluebelle eggs have a 'blush'. But I'm afraid that isn't helping me figure out whodunit. I suspect either the Pepperpot or the Gingernut, as the Bluebelle still has quite dark legs and her comb & wattles are very grey, with no sign of red. Here are the eggs - day 1 on the right, day 2 & 3 on the left. Day 1 is 42g, day 2 is 44g, and day 3 is 46g. I'm not sure how obvious it is in the photos but the day 1 egg is a bit darker and quite speckeld. Day 2 & 3 are almost identical. Any guesses? Do you think day 1 is a different hen or is it possible for a hen to lay slightly different eggs on different days (particularly on her first day)? Plum
Think you'll have to spend the weekend seeing who goes in the nestbox
jennym
I was afraid of that... Still, there are worse ways to spend a weekend.
laurmurf
mostin sprayed her chickens' vents with food colouring so that she could see who laid which egg.... sadly she forgot to make a note of which hen she sprayed with which colour!
