tinamc
Oh well yesterday, I had a half successful shopping trip to get supplies for my new girls, who arrive tomorrow. I managed to get their bedding and some acv, but the grit that I went for was out of stock. They had in some oyster shell, but I wasn't sure if to get this as I've read somewhere (can't remember where!) that this is only suitable for hens over 18 months old. Is this true?? Also in their budgies section they had bird grit, which said on the packet that it was suitable for Budgies, Canaries, Cockatiel, Finches, Parrots. Would this be ok for chickens too? Thanks for the help!
The Dogmother
The budgie grit would be too fine - what you are looking for is a bag of mixed grit, which contains both soluble and insoluble grit. This will provide calcium to strengthen the egg shells, and grit to help with digestion.
