brightonbelle
My Pekin Bantam has gone broody, and whilst I am researching the best way to deal with this I am wondering if it is safe to eat the unfertilized eggs she is sitting in. I took one out yesterday evening and it was very warm, and I do not know how long she had been sat on it..Is it better not to eat them? I think todays was another hens egg which she had adopted. Thanks in advance
bigmommasally
I have a Silkie and an Orpington amongst my girls and they seem to take it in turns to be broody so that means my girls eggs (luckily I have a few girls that do lay consistently) are always sat on and warm when we collect them. And as we both work that can mean they've been sat on for most of the day! We eat ours and have never worried about it, and we're still here to tell the tale
Redwing
It takes about 24 hours of incubation for the egg to start developing I will eat eggs laid and collected on the same day but wont eat them if the hen has been sat overnight on them
