What do we do if bird flu gets to the UK. With H5N1 first reaching turkey, and now romaina, what can be done to stop it.

Has H5N1 actually been identified in Romania? I hadn't heard that it had been positively recognised there yet.

Sadly, according to Sky News, it has been confirmed that the Romanian teasts have proved positive.

 

However, I think we have to keep in mind that the virus is just as likely to mutate into something harmless to both birds and humans, as it is to mutate into a global killer.

Absolutely Shona. No point in panicking until we really do need to panic. The DEFRA site is excellent and has put everything into perspective - the risk of Avian Flu reaching us is still LOW so we just need to be observant, keep up a good level of hygiene for our chickens and cross our fingers very tightly. We had this panic a few years ago and it didn't reach us so with luck it won't this time either.
