kaza46
I have a egg that isn't due to hatch till Friday, my Broody hen has hatched her own 2 chicks last Sunday and i was wanting her to take on this one as well. I have heard this is highly unlikely but i was hoping that someone has done it with success and will give me tips on how to do it. I was hoping if i introduced it slowly (if it hatches) and then she will just get use to it. Am i hoping for too much? She is a good mother. Redwing
you can try it I've tried this a few times, once was sucessful but the other few times I was not A couple looked for all the world that thngs were fine and dandy then killed their chicks in the night The trouble is its best done at night when you can slip the chick under her but realistically thats when you arent around to supervise If you try it then keep the broody and chicks dark and well confined for some hours afterwards, she is less likely to strike out in the dark
kaza46
I was told that the chick being on its own will become hysterical and may poss not eat so i am now worried i have really done the wrong thing. I am soooooo attached to these chickens and chicks i am upset that i didn't research this before. I take it i won't be enoughfor the chick to spend time with lol:-)
Redwing
I take it you have the brooder/heat lamp etc? if so then try to get another chick to go with the new one so it has a buddy If not then you have have to consider rehoming your little one as soon as it hatches
kaza46
Iknow I know i shouldn't have done it! I am going to see if anyone has a chick i can have to keep it company. There are places around locally so will visit them and see if they have any newbies. Thanks everyone
