Stevie Adams
I've had a bit of a traumatic experience with Patsy today in that she's had a big issue trying to lay a soft egg. I'm told I need to add some oyster shells to her diet, as well as the layers pellets. Can anyone give me advice on where to get this, I want to make sure I get the right stuff. Ideally I'd like to go to a shop and grab some but I don't really know where would stock them. If not, I can order online, can anyone recommend anywhere? Redwing
pellets should contain sufficient calcium Rather than upping the calcium if you are worried I'd recommend a drop of cod liver oil (the kind sold in equine shops) to the feed, this will help the chooks absorb the calcium Adding more calcium sometimes leads you down a road of more and more being needed and sometimes thats just not the problem The odd soft shelled egg is pretty common especially in pullets, I'd personally only worry if you are getting them regularly
