Sam
Hello. I'll keep this short, I've just checked over my chickens because I am going on holiday tomorrow at 6am, after reading posts about fly strike etc I thought it was important to do. I found lots of little white/yellow things crawling around the base of the feathers & skin!! What are these? Can someone direct me to the correct FAQ thread? I get so confused with all these mites, red mites, nfm etc.... ahhhhhh I'm leaving my chickens in the hands of my brother for 2 weeks... so I really need to get this sorted today. Thanks for any help
Ain't Nobody Here
Sounds like it might be lice. Easily treatable with Johnson's Mite and Lice Spray* (available from Pets At Home or similar). http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=6949 http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=24048 *Not licensed for use in poultry in UK
Sam
Thanks ANH, I've just done some more research and pretty sure it is lice. I can only see it Whitey ( ) but I'm guessing if one has it, they all will? I'm guessing this is similar to the spray, just in powder form? Ain't Nobody Here
That looks like it's just Diatom which won't contain Pyrethrum. If you can get hold of Johnsons that's probably a better bet if you want to start zapping the lice before you go away. This is what you want https://www.hensforpets.co.uk/products/red-mite-control/johnsons-cage-bird-anti-mite-spray.

Sam
Dad just came home for his lunch break (well he had to go without lunch today ) so we went straight to the local pet foods place because they usually have everything we need, but they had no johnsons spray, but I had a look around and saw Total mite kill, nettex. I searched on the forum on my phone and saw one of Clarets posts who said it also contains pyrethrum so will hopefully do the same job If not I'll have to bike down to pets at home. Thank you for your help and offers Really appreciated.
