maxjam
We have around 25 chickens in our coop and around half of them are starting to get severely bald A lot of them have lost feathers around their bums and several have now got bald backs, legs and necks. They are really starting to look like we don't care for them! They get fed mash everyday along with a couple of scoops of corn/mealworms in the afternoon. They also get wormed monthly and are otherwise in good condition (laying well). We did recently have a red mite infestation in the coop but I am 99% sure that they have now been dealt with. I completely cleaned and sprayed the coop out with poultry shield every 5 days for 20 days and doused with diatom powder to get rid of all of the re-infestations. For the past couple of months as part of my weekly cleaning routine I have continued to spray the coop and dust with diatom powder. There has been no sign of red mite so am pretty sure they are gone. The feather loss is continuing to get worse however. I expected a bit with the hot weather we have had but several of them are now starting to look really bald and I'm getting quite concerned. Any ideas?
Egluntyne
Could be depluming mite. A pyrethrum based powder (* not usually licensed for use on poultry in UK) is often recommended as a treatment.
