Rubyismyduck
Hello, sadly 5 of my hens have died and it is just Buck left. will she be OK on her own? thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear about your other hens . Do you know how they died? Your remaining hen will be lonely on her own as they are flock animals so I would consider getting some friends for her (as long as you are sure there isn't anything lurking that may have made your other girls ill). Rubyismyduck
we are not sue about the others, the vet could figure it out either. we will take down our coop, eglu etc and give it a thorough clean making sure they she will be fine. the trouble is my parents are dead against getting more, they want a break from hens, would she live as long alone, or is it too cruel? Patricia W
You would have to become her flock so she would need an awful lot of attention. And even that won't necessarily work. If your parents really can't be persuaded to have another couple then I'd think about re-homing her - for her sake.
Rubyismyduck
i'll try to convince them, how many would be the minimum? would 1 extra do?
Ain't Nobody Here
One extra would be fine, if you can find a single hen .
Rubyismyduck
sadly my parents told me that we are not getting any more and she is going to stay with us alone. that sounds kind of cruel but there is nothing i can do but be with her. this will be hard in september if she is still around because i will have to go to boarding school. i will make sure we all spend lots of time with her. if we were to get 1 more hen would they not fight or buck not accept a new hen or the other way around, she is bout
Ain't Nobody Here
That's a shame but there's not much else you can do unless you know of someone with hens who could take her? If she's 3 already, it may be a bad idea to bring in a young hen anyway, as you'd be in the same situation when your original girl goes.
