Since losing one of our two hybrids, Thursday, last week I felt it only fair that Pepper, the remaining one, should be let out of the confinement of the 'dirty pen' and allowed to free-range with the Pekins. This worked out ok, she gets on well with them and (so far) hasn't shredded the lawn  However, there has been a major increase in the amount and size of the poo on the grass and getting across the garden has become a major assault course between clean-ups! I've been teetering on the verge of getting another lf for company and putting her back in her pen.............although really we'd like to get rid of the pen and re-cultivate that bit of the garden.

Anyway, quite by chance when I helping my sister source a young pekin earlier this week I came across an advert for somebody trying to rehome three pekins that were constantly going broody and stopping her lf from getting in the nest box. I got in touch and suggested that maybe she would like to swap them for Pepper (a good layer and doesn't go broody) as I'm not really bothered about eggs ...... I just like chickens

Since she posted the advert one of the pekins had snapped out of it and has had a reprieve and gone back in with the lf but she was happy to swap the other two so we are meeting today to swap Pepper for Doris and Brian(!) I get my bit of garden back and she gets a lovely big egg every day :D
