izzys-hens
Hi, so our first chicks have hatched, 6 out of 8 eggs (although i wasnt expecting the other 2 eggs to hatch) My chicks were born all a day apart, so im finding comparisons a little difficult as they are all a bit more developed than each other. I wanted to know whether any one can tell if these are boys or girls and what breeds they are? The chicks are definatly silkie x because the cockeral is a silkie but what my question is is what are they crossed with. The hens which they might be crossed with are, silkie, buff frizzle pekin, sultan, and mottled pekin. (although i think it may just be the sultan and frizzle pekin) I have 4 yellowy ones however now they are starting to grow their feathers there are; two which have white feathers one which has white with black feathers (winds are different to other) one which has got a pale brownish colour also we have 2 black ones one which has a little gold on its face the other cheated death and has not got any feathers yet as its the youngest. i hope this works. the pics arent that good but i hope they will do http://www.flickr.com/photos/65643423@N08/ if it helps the oldest is 10 days old, the youngest is 5 days old any ideas? thanks izzy
Redwing
They are very cute chicks You wont be able to tell what sex they are for a while, the Silkie x Sultans will be the hardest and they will probably be well over 10 weeks before you can tell, the Pekin crosses may be a little quicker
izzys-hens
do you have any ideas which are wich? ie the white one with black bits on sultan or pekin?
Redwing
Its hard to tell from the pics and the fact that the dad is Silkie makes things a bit trickier as that will lead to head tufts in most chicks regardless of what their mum was The white ones with beards will either be pure Silkie or SilkiexSultan - I'd guess the latter as the beards are quite pronounced already Ones without head tufts will not be Sultan based so would guess those have Pekin mums

Redwing
there is a chance yes if there was a frizzle hen in the group you should be able to spot frizzle feathers inside two weeks, the ends of the wing feathers will start to curl
