marmite+toast
We'd like to add another chicken to our exsisting two,as Marmite is not a reliable layer and i really don't want to buy eggs again! Cam we get just one more or is the poor thing likely to get bullied by my girls? also a bit worried that two more would make their living conditions too cramped (we've got an eglu classic) If it is best to get two more can we put bantems in with our big girls? percy049
I think it would be best to add 2 full size girls to your flock. Bantams or only adding one is not recommended, as they are morelikely to be bullied, but it can still be done with slow and careful introductions
fluffy chick
I agree. I would add 2 large foul. I have just added cochins (lf) to my bantams and that went well but even they were chased about by my older bantams. I would never introduce small chickens to lf. JMO. I would get 2 and maybe consider an extension for your eglu? There will be plenty of room for 4 to sleep in the eglu so don't worry about that. Redwing
I've had four chooks in an Eglu run with extension and to be honest it was a bit of a squeeze but if you do decide to add two you'd need at least an extension to make a 3m run Dont forget you'd need separate accomodation for introductions Personally i wouldnt rock the boat until your 'under the weather' hen is back to full fitness and laying normally as hens do sense weakness very quickly and also you could start an egg eating problem as that hen is laying softies Sorry to sound so negative
