Britannia Ovens (esp Range cookers) your experience

We have decided that the time has come to add more chickens to our "flock". We have 3 at the moment and are planning to add 4 more. We really want to do it properly and we have enough space to make two separate free-ranging areas, but we need somewhere for the new arrivals to sleep until we are ready to fully integrate them.

I wonder if a plastic cat/pet carrier would be suitable? Would it be big enough - and would they be OK without perching bars? I don't have one (our cats have a wicker basket carrier...) - so I would have to buy something.

Alternatively, does anybody in the Oxford area have anything that I could borrow for a few nights/weeks ?

I used a plastic pet carrier for keeping my new girls separate . There were only 3 of them but if yours are young, they may fit in OK. I had spare bars that I put in - not sure if they'd be ok without, perhaps as it's only temporary.

You could try looking on Freecycle for a rabit hutch or something similar, and put some roosting bars inside for them. A spare set of roosting bars always comes in handy! Whatever you get will need to be secure for them at night.

I used a second hand rabbit hutch and put bars in as described. I Also put half a cardboard box in for a nest box. Cheap as chips and worked fine

I am keeping an eye on freecycle for something suitable - but if nothing comes up, I'll have to buy. I thought if I got something smallish like a pet carrier, I could put it inside the cube run after the others had gone to bed. Has anyone tried that?
