beach chick
I think she is possibly hormonal? she and Arthur are 6 mths old now. she makes this kind of growling/squeaking noise when I go to take her from hutch to run - is this normal? I'm just waiting for a cheque to come in before I book them both in for neutering but obviously if the noises are not normal I will take her to vet asap. lillybettybabs
It could be hoemones, but they are at the breeding age now so it might be a good idea to separate them until they have been neautered as she could get (or be already) pregnant. beach chick
lily, if I separate them now will it make it difficult to reintroduce them post-neutering? she could actually be pregnant already I suppose - I dont think so, Arthur has not been noticeably amorous (which he was a couple of months ago) and she is certainly not gaining any noticeable weight; I held off getting them done longer than I originally planned because I wanted to let Arthur get over his leg amputation... think I will phone vet in the morning and book them both in asap. really really dont want baby bunnies, cute tho they would be! beach chick
well we are off to the vet today to see if we can find out whether she is going to be a mummy or not. I am actually beginning to think she might be, she's definitely getting porker and seems to want to hide away more aaarrrggghhh!! oh well, if she is she is; we can keep the babies or the girls' school might have them (they have a working farm including small animals). and they would be cute... beach chick
vet not sure if she is pregnant or not, but says we should treat her as if she is and wait and see. so... Ruby will go into the outdoor run with a nesting box and some weather-proofing on one end - the hutch nesting box is upstairs and I think potential for disaster with any babies is rather high; not really enough room in there for a downstairs box and not sure she'd use it anyway as she's used to the upstairs one. so she will have familiar surroundings, access to grass etc etc and if she's not expecting then life wont have changed that much. Arthur will have the hutch for night times and the small (1m sq) run for daytimes next to Rubes. 2 quail will move out of the small run and into the rabbit ark. does that sound ok? (oh and Arthur is booked in for the snip this Friday and they have to be kept apart for 40 days after the op, which sounds rather biblical!) LolaLayla
My lop bunny did not look pregnant at all and she had 8 babies. As I thought she possibly was I gave her a nestbox with hay in it and 3 days before she gave birth she filled it with fur that she had pulled from her chest. We plan to keep one of the male babies but have been told to get him neutered as soon as the testicles are visible which is at a few months old apparently. She has been a great mum and all the babies have survived.
beach chick
thanks for that lolalayla, we will wait and see and hope Ruby is as good a mummy as your bun!
beach chick
still no sign of anything, she is hopping around quite happily. meanwhile have had to cancel Arthur's little trip to the vet on account of enormous bill we are expecting for the dog... so they are in separate runs for a while!! beach chick
well, she started pulling her fur on Saturday... at the moment she seems to be scattering it round the run which doesnt seem quite the idea so we are still waiting!! beach chick
she now has a fur-lined nest; but we cant see far enough into it to see if there are any babies. she is eating anything and everything we give her; its now 26 days since I first started wondering...
