Forestchook
Hi, My four adopted chicks are now 12/13 week old and unfortunately the time has come to move the boys on. Now i have a new home which I believe will take them but sadly it leaves me with a bit of a dilema as three out of the four are boys. The single girl I wish to keep and introduce to my existing trio of booted bantums. She (I hope) is a LF light sussex who to be honest is as big or bigger than the batums. Ideally I wish to take alll three boys to their new home at the same time. However this will leave the girl on her own until I can introduce her to the older chooks. But if I hold onto one of the boys to keep her company then he will have no friends when he is rehomed. Even though she is big am I correct in thinking I shouldn't introduce the girl to the older chooks until she is POL? any suggestions thanks N Edited August 7, 2011 by Guest
lindafw
can you section off a bit of run so she can see and 'speak' to the others? that way she wouldn't feel alone till you think she is ready I have introduced mine to aracanas who were 16 weeks and mine are large fowl orpingtons and dorkings, a buff sussex and a couple of little polands. Forestchook
Hmmm, not really. However I could push her run right up agaisnt the bantums' run. There would be two layers of weld mesh plus maybe a couple of inches gap; would that be close enough to keep her happy? N
Forestchook
While I'm on this subject please could i have some second opinions on gender. I am fairly confident about the boys (slightly less so for the girl) but would love some back up now they are bigger. I'd hate to rehome one I could have kept. Here are my chicks, not so little anymore... Dozy - the bantum (?) mix (supposed to be a Sultan). Has to be a boy Jack - already crowing! (sounds like the jack-in-the-box I had as a Kid) Thug - mind your fingers! And finally Sabrina (I hope) I guess I'm most worried about Sabrina. I don't want her to 'man up' once the others have gone and so have to rehome him by himself. Thanks N
