Hey there, This is my first time keeping Chickens and have 2 Lohmans. My One Chicken who actually laid her very first egg this morning has a slightly swollen breast on the one side with her wing slightly sticking out on this side also. She seems absolutely fine in herself, eating fine, enjoying cuddles etc and as I said, she laid her first egg this morning! Advice would be most appreciated, thankyou, ian!

I'm not sure to be honest. Possibly an injury? Have you had a good look and feel around the wing? Does it seem painful? Is the lump her crop do you think?

Hey there, thanks for the reply, I thought that at first, but I have examined her and she didnt seem in any discomfort at all, let me rub and open her wing, she also been flapping her wings several times a day as she has a run around outside! I think the lump may well be her crop as they appeared to eat lots yesterday! I think im just worrying about everything as only had them a little over a week!

If she is running about happy and it isn't worrying her then I wouldn't worry either tbh. I would keep an eye out though. Her crop should be empty first thing in the morning if you wanted to check that tomorrow first thing.

Sometimes they hold their wings away from their bodies when they are hot - although I can't remember many hot days here recently!

...and the crop is to the right hand side.

 

Ours hold their wings out a bit when hot. They pant too!
