counturchickens
I am worried about Donna. Last week she laid a softie every day. I gave her some mash with limestone flour for a few days, then we had a proper egg! Then back to softies again. The reason I am worried is that the softies seem to come with a runny poo and liquid which smells like urine. Any ideas?
counturchickens
Ps, she is fine in herself, sratching around, eating and drinking, not hunched.
Egluntyne
Maybe you need to continue with the Calcium supplement for a bit longer? I'd give her a bit of cod liver oil too, for the Vit D3 content which will help with the metabolism of the calcium.
counturchickens
Thanks egluntyne, I was putting cod liver oil in too, forgot to mention that. I was just concerned as I've seen that too much calcium can be bad for them too.
Egluntyne
It can be. You'd know if she was getting too much as there would be chalky bumps and bobbles on the shells. If she has been a good layer, perhaps her shell gland is exhausted and she needs a rest. She might perk up after a moult.
