Ophelia
Hello, I have three ex-batts that arrived in November 2010. Two of them laid an egg every day while the other would produce a softie every now and then. I feed them on ex-batt feed before switching them to layer pellets a year ago. I add lime flour to their food and give them baked and crushed egg shells. Most days they get to free range around the garden. About 6 months ago one of the hens that were laying started laying eggs with very brittle shells before eventually ceasing to lay a couple of months ago. Once she stopped laying my other hen stopped laying too. The one that likes producing softies is still laying a softie now and then. Are they just past the point of laying or is there anything more I can do for them or feed them to encourage egg production? Thanks.
Space Chick
I think they may have retired Soft shells then nothing is common as they come to the end of their laying life.

Ophelia
Thanks guys. I thought maybe they had fully retired but just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I could do. My girls can enjoy their retirement clearing my overgrown garden.
