Hello :-) Have just ordered my new Cube. Have been keeing chicken ladies for the past two years but have grown sick of battling with red mite and some wierd new black mite that is multiplying into thousands but that I can't seem to get rid of. So the wooden coop is off to become firewood and I'm going plastic fantastic :-D I lost my last flock of ladies to a fox last month after a friend forgot to close the coop door - just that one lapse in security and they were gone. I was so traumatised finding my poor girls like that, with all their heads pulled off and feathers eeverywhere - nasty way to go. So the fox is dead, the run has been electrified (the fox scaled a 7ft fence to get into the girls) and my new flock is settling in nicely. New Cube is arriving 31st August - although I am having a *slight* wobble over the colour as I went for red and am now thinking purple may have been a better choice .... grrrr!

How do I get all those nice smilies to work and a nice signature footer thing?!

Hi Alexis, post a few more times (I think 5?) and then edit your signature in the 'user control panel' - I've got a red cube coming tomorrow (although I'd prefer pink or purple!) - I can take pictures of it when it gets here if you like, as I'm quite intrigued myself to see what it's going to look like :)

Thank you, that would be great! Hard to tell from on-screen 'sale' images what the colours really look like. My two girls were arguing between orange and pink so I went with red, but am now wondering about purple! Chicks currently all squeezed into a friend's standard Eglu as wooden coop just too infested to use. It's getting a bit cosy though as there are 6 of them and, even though they are babies (12-ish weeks old) my Brahma is already massive!

Alright, I'll see how much of it we can assemble when I get home from work tomorrow - and pics will follow shortly :)

I wouldn't worry too much at that age, they all pile on top of one another anyway! I could easily fit another 6 silkies in my silkie coop!

Hi, congratulations on ordering your cube. Sorry you lost your girls, it must have been terrible. I have a red classic that i recently got from ebay, not my first choice of colour but it actually looks quite nice especially with the green on the run. I also have a purple cube which is great. My advice would be to change the colour now if you are not sure, either way i am sure you will love what you get and so will your girls! :)

Oh no, the 'what colour' thing!!! I debated for a while & in the went for green which looks fab in my garden (plus i have 3 boys & no one wanted to be seen with a girlie colour !!!) But I do love the purple and red. So not much help there. I looked through the gallery shots here on the forum to see others cubes and also on flickr there are some good shots.

Having gone through a million photos online I've changed my mine (woman's perogative and all that!) and have gone with purple! Would have loved a lilac or blue one but they don't seem to be doing any special editions right now and Ebay is completely devoid of cubes at the moment (loads on there when I last looked end of 2010 but that's life!)

Looking forward to it's arrival now :-)

Where do you guys wash your trays off into? I've not got a drain down by the chickens and am thinking if I wash it into the hedge at the bottom of the garden it's going to end up smelling aweful?

I chuck most of the muck from my trays into a composter and then use the water in buckets I used to wash them to water plants - they seem to like it...
