The Pearsons
My girls got have an extension! Photos are on my website: http://hume-hussies.mysite.orange.co.uk/ Does anyone have any ideas about the breed of chicken? They look like Marans but have light eggs. I've been told they are "Scots Beauties" but I can't find that breed anywhere! I'm guessing at a hybrid of some sort. They do lay well - I'm getting about 5 eggs per week per bird which is enough for our own use. Superman is asking when the new girls are coming - he spends almost as much time as I do clucking at them Helen in Hume
ali-s
She looks like a Scots Dumpy Short stumpy legs and a big fat body Until recently I had one called Daisy the stumpy Dumpy I would love another one. Here she is, the one at the back. I like the run
ali-s
If you go to the "breeds" section at the top of the page (in the green border), you can read a bit about them.
The Pearsons
Could be a Dumpy but I though mine had too long a leg..... I don't really mind what breed they are because they are great! Helen in Hume
ali-s
You can get Dumpies with longer legs. The feather colouring is called Cuckoo.
The Pearsons
Wow, thanks! My friend has a lot of them - too many - so she gave us these as they have denuded her garden and she has four who are sitting on eggs. As she also runs a cockrel there is a chance she'll have even more Creepers in a few more days
ali-s
I wish I lived near to you, I would be down like a shot for a couple of them I am getting anothe Eglu next week but can't find any Chickens up here just now. I got Daisy from Edinburgh which was an 8 hour round trip for us
The Pearsons
Sorry Alison, another question about Dumpies! My eggs are brown - I thought Dumpies laid white or off white eggs??? But having done some reading it could be that they are part Dumpy and part something else which would account for the brown eggs. ali-s
Daisy laid off white eggs which were a matt texture most of the time, occasionally she would lay an egg which was more tinted

Jules.
I love your photographs I write the date & name of the chicken (if I can be sure) on my eggs, but i never thought to write on the weight, even though I do weigh them. Thanks for the idea
