Hot Sunny Day = Coop Cleaning Day

Recommended Posts

My ex batt girls will be moving soon from their current accommodation to a second hand Forsham Ark that I bought off a neighbour last summer. It's far sturdier and more weather proof than their current set up, and as this will be their 3rd free range winter, they deserve as much comfort and cosiness as we can offer them! We've also fitted it up with an automatic pop hole opener to make life a little bit easier in the early summer mornings and early winter nights,

At the beginning of this year, the ark was home to three chickens who we looked after for a friend for three months so I thought I should give it a super thorough clean out just in case there were any nasties lurking. I spotted a pressure sprayer in Wilkos for £7ish recently and thought it would make the tiresome task of cleaning the coop a bit easier. Well, if I'd have known how brilliant it is, I would have got one right at the beginning of my hen keeping adventure. The nozzle gets right into all the nooks and crannies and applies a liberal amount of poultry shield. Job done in around 1/4 of the time it would normally take. By the time I'd sprayed from one end of the ark to the other, the poultry shield had had time to get to work and all the dirt came off very easily.

For anyone who uses poultry shield (or total mite kill etc) on a regular basis I would really recommend getting one of these, it really does make quick work of cleaning the hen house! I've now left it open to the elements to get nice and dry and the girls can move in in the next couple of days. Question is - could I start cleaning my house like this, would make life a lot easier!
