mischiefbec
Hi guys, This is my first post on here although I've been reading for a few weeks. We got our lovely girls 9 days ago now from a local farm, they are hyline browns and were POL. We waited a whole week and then on Monday we were rewarded with a lovely first egg from Yolk-o! Yippee! Then yesterday she manaaged another one (good girl)! Me and hubby celebrated by eating them both this morning boiled on sarnies and they were yummy! I do have a question though is someone could help. Why won't she lay in her nest box? Found one in the run and one right next to the nest box yesterday. What can I do about it? Her buddy Cluck doesn't seem quite as ready yet as her comb isn't as big or as red. Also, how will I tell who is laying what eggs? Thanks a lot guys, Bec xxx P.S. How do I add pretty chickens to my signature?
fluffy chick
Welcome! Yey for the She doesn't know yet where to lay. I bought some fake eggs and left them in the nest box when I first got mine. Golf balls work too. She'll soon get the hang! As for who laid which egg it isn't always easy to tell. If you're in and hear a racket, rush out and see who is making it! Chances are they are letting the world know how clever they are to have laid an egg! As for your sig, I don't think you can add one straight away you need to chat a bit more first. AlisonH
My 2 lay slightly different colour eggs so if you can see who lays what as they may gradually change times that they lay in the day then you may be able to work out who they belong to. Also - because we're really sad- I started to weigh the eggs when they first laid so I know which one lays the slightly heavier egg. (Yes I know I need to get a life!!!)
