dyfiview
One of my hens (I've only got 2) seems to keep being 'caught short' and producing an egg before reaching the nest. She is producing soft shells at the moment and consequently these eggs which pop out and fall to the ground or onto the roosting bars are breaking. We are working on the shells with a calcium supplement but would rather she laid in the nest. Any ideas?
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . How long has she been laying? It sometimes takes them a while to get the hang of laying properly!
Henergy
I wonder if they 'know' the egg will not be normal. I have a girl who has laid a couple of softies & they are always in the roosting area & so fall down the bars. However, when she lays a normal one its always in the nest box. counturchickens
I agree with henergy, we have a softie layer who always lays through the roosting bars.
