Chicken laying soft eggs

Recommended Posts

Hi, one of mine seems to be laying softies on an almost daily basis for the last week. They have access to oyster shell grit and free range too so I'm at a bit of a loss. Have found a couple of eggs with holes pecked in them recently too. From 3 chickens I've only had one complete egg for the last couple of days - HELP!

My lot have trouble this time of year, Less day light and moulting normally brings on a softy or two.

I have one that will stop laying for a bit to recover however Big Betty refuses to have a break so i do

have extra protein foods for her eg; Mealworms, Tuna and mashed boiled egg with some yoghurt keep her

energy up (small amount before bed) Life guard tonic in their water helps also .

Ah, is that true of hybrids too? We only got the chickens at the beginning of this year so I've not been through all the seasons yet. Had one regular egg from Beryl and an almost hard one from White One but Sylvias still laying softies. She's the only one of my girls that ever gets broody too. Will pop to the shop and get some more mealworms for them and some tonic. Can't hurt!
