daxigirl
Hi out there, just wondering if anyone is entering/going to the show in November? If so what advice/recommendations would you give to someone thinking of going? Is it fierce competition? Just printed out the schedule to see what classes there are & if any of my motley bunch would be suitable, I'm thinking maybe the Awfuls, Fraggle & Dixie and some eggs. Redwing
Hiya There is a thread running in the Get Together section on the show in general I am going and competing. Competition is quite fierce but chicken showing people (or 'Fanciers') are a pretty friendly lot I'd suggest doing a local show to understand how they work, the organisers at those are helpful. On National day you'll find it much more frenetic and fanciers in the main wont want to be disturbed as they prepare their birds and stewards are busy so its much better to learn the ropes at another show first Read up on the standards to make sure your birds dont have any obvious faults. There are some general show tips in the FAQ section Dixie will face strong competition in her class, Leghorns are extremely popular as a show bird with large classes but they have a very short show life and once a female's comb falls over far enough to obscure her eye she is at the end of her show career. The others should be ok if they are good examples of their breed the National is two days long and the birds stay in their cages for all of that time so bear in mind that you'll need to be there both days
