Mabel
Hi we are new to chicken keeping and i'm having a problem with one of my girls, I would be grateful for any advice. My chickens are 27wks old, two are laying well but one has stopped laying completely for the last two weeks. She also has a large protruding crop, which doesn't smell, but although smaller in the morning is still there. She seems fine in herself and her comb is nice and red and large. I have tried massaging her crop and managed to get a little olive oil into her, but i'm not confident enough to squirt it in her mouth and hold her upside down eek! Any ideas would be much appreciated, Thanks
Plum
Don't worry about holding her upside down that's for sour crop and you say her breath doesn't smell. You say it's got some there in the morning. I would check she is not eating the bedding in the nest box. You are doing right to use olive oil that will help lubricate whatever is blocking her and just massage gently. Live mealworms are good for clearing it. You can buy them from a fishing shop and feed them to her. Good luck.
