squiffs
Doris has got a bubbly/foamy substance in the corner of her eye - I know this can be a symptom of myco, I can't really tell if her sinuses are inflamed, but she's not got any other respiratory symptoms. I trimmed her beard and sideburns in case they were causing some sort of irritation to her eyeball making it water and go a bit bubbly, when she blinks it goes away for a bit and then sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't. Would it be there constantly if she had myco? would the bubbles be bigger? - I know silkies can be easily prone to myco, so I don't want to take any chances as I know I need to act fast if it is. Could she be a myco carrier? I'm so paranoid about being paranoid (metaparanoia? ), and I really really really cannot afford an emergency vet visit this weekend, could someone please help me ascertain if this is myco or something else? Sorry the pictures aren't brilliant, she won't hold still! I've got her in quarantine in the hen hospital now, though I'm worried the damage may already be done... fluffy chick
Some of mine had it and started the same way. Sorry. I wouldn't have thought you need a vet immediately though she should be ok till you can get an appointment. It could be other things but I would get her checked out. squiffs
cheers, I've put her in the hospital wing, I'm wondering if I should do the same with her sister as they share a coop, try and stop the spread?
gongladosh
Sounds like myco to me. it's easy enough to sort with baytril or tylan from your vet. I'd be tempted to keep the one with symptoms separate until sorted, rather than both (just in case the other one doesn't have it).
squiffs
Thanks again, and it can definitely wait 'til monday when it isn't £80 just to get an appointment? If it's really really important I get her seen to, I can try and find the money some way, I just don't have it at the moment, it being a week til payday
Redwing
Its possibly Myco, the bubbles can go and come back Its good you have separated her, she should be ok to wait till Monday for a vets appointment, keep her out of the cold and add a tonic to her water if you have some

Phew, I'm starting to trust my instincts and my choice of actions a little bit more now.
Redwing
Good job done there Always if in doubt separate, offer water and keep the bird warm
squiffs
Nothing like a baptism of fire a few months into chicken keeping, eh? Fingers crossed I don't see any symptoms in the other girls, or I'm going to run out of room for quarantining!
gongladosh
how is she now?
squiffs
I took doris to the vets today, and typically, they said she was fine. I felt a little silly, and the branch that the chicken specialist usually works at is a good 10miles away from where I live so, though I'm very relieved she's fine, and I know I did the right thing getting her checked out, I think my anxious personality made me overreact - totally. I put her back in with her sister, and they had a little bedtime squabble, and now they're snuggled up together, completely unaware that the dreaded worming week is to begin now I've got the all clear thanks for your help everyone
gongladosh
it may have just been something she got in her eye, but if in doubt it's best to get her checked out by an expert - you did the right thing.
