memphisto
Hello everyone, Just after some advice, Dilys, our light Sussex is behaving a little bit differently today and just wondered if she was getting ready to lay? She keeps squatting down in the pen, although she normally loves free ranging, she wants to be in the pen or the coup. Each time I come towards her, she squats, which she's never done before. We were told she was 22 weeks when we got her nearly two weeks ago with 2 other chickens, we got two more on Sunday but no eggs from any of them yet. Any ideas? Olly
Yup, that sounds as if she's getting ready for it. You may notice her comb getting redder, although in my experience that often happens after they have started laying, and she will probably be eating more, but if she is the only one laying that may be less noticeable. The squatting is a sure sign, though. Get the egg-boxes ready!

memphisto
No egg action yet but getting a little excited for her! Penny has now started squatting and keep coming and going from the coup, so thinking she may also be getting ready.
