chuckmum6
I have had a rather eventful morning cleaning out my chickens. Daisy (hatched end of May this year) has gone broody. She doesn't know what to do with herself, she is wandering around boking and keeps fluffing herself up, the others are offended by her behaviour and are after her! Last week Princess Layer our cuckoo lemon pekin was thinking about brooding and was spending a long time doing nothing in the nest box, so I guess Daisy has caught the whiff of hormonal hen and has joined suit. However Daisy has taken the broody madness to extremes making a roof top protest! She was boking around where my son and I were cleaning the roosting bars when she did a vertical take off straight up about 14ft onto our extension roof! There she stayed boking, with a couple of well aimed tennis balls and some corn, I managed to 'encourage' her down, but I had run through what I might have to say to the firebrigade!!!!!!!! What a stupid chicken, she has since had her wing firmly clipped so I am hoping the impersonations of Concord are over This is a reconstruction of the scene as I too busy trying to get her down to get my camera at the time! Olly
Love the 'reconstructed' photo! You must have been relieved to get her back down though.
chuckmum6
Very, she did head to the top of the roof if she'd gone over it would have been a very different story! Also if she'd gone to the side my Springers would have been there - a very lucky hen!
chuckmum6
A further update, since Daisy's roof top exploits she had since gone missing, ES and myself have done an extensive search of the garden and have found said broody hidden under some branches against a fence, when she was removed with much pecking and squawking, she revealed 12 eggs in her feathered nest! My son was keen to bake a cake so we have just cracked the eggs, only 3 of them were clear the others had the start of chicks fortunately just lumps and blood vessels, although still fairly gross! The broody is now doing time in the coop of shame, where I can keep an eye on her. Broodies in October!!!!
